Lauren co-founded the New Synagogue Project and served as its first Lead Instigator (President) until September 2021, when she joined NSP’s staff as Synagogue Director. She has been involved in organizing and activism to win racial and economic justice for the past 20 years, and professionally for the past 12 years as a community organizer, non-profit manager, and fundraiser.
Since starting her career as a community organizer at the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization (an affiliate of the Industrial Areas Foundation – IAF) and as a fellow at JOIN for Justice, she’s worked as a synagogue organizer at the Union for Reform Judaism, Associate Director of the Stroum Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Washington, and Director of Development at Faith in Action (formerly PICO National Network). She has a BA in Political Science from Yale University and an MPA from the Evans School of Public Policy and Governance at the University of Washington. She is driven by the belief that together we can bring to life our shared visions for the community and world we want to live in – and that we can do so with joy and celebration!
