“Monajat” & The Nightingale of Iran: A Persian Jewish Performance Event

September 21 @ 9:00 pm - 10:50 pm

NSP is cosponsoring this event!

Featuring Galeet Dardashti and Danielle Dardashti, Monajat celebrates the bridge-building legacy of their grandfather Younes Dardashti- a Persian Jew who rose to national fame as a shah favorite and radio star in 1950s/60s Iran, known as “The Nightingale of Iran.”

Monjat (“intimate conversations” in Farsi) is inspired by ancient prayers of reflection, introspection, and hope sung by her late grandfather. Galeet reinvents the ritual prayers by remixing her grandfather’s recordings with original music performed by an acclaimed ensemble of Middle Eastern and jazz musicians and adding novel visual art to create an immersive experience. As a world-renowned storyteller, Danielle shares the hopeful story of their Persian family.
